Air Canada Express Flight 2259 Incident at Halifax Stanfield International Airport

On December 28, 2024, Air Canada Express Flight 2259, operated by PAL Airlines using a De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 aircraft, experienced a landing gear failure upon arrival at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia.

Incident Details

The flight originated from St. John's International Airport and landed in Halifax at approximately 9:30 PM local time.During the landing, the left main landing gear collapsed, causing the aircraft to veer to the left and skid along the runway.This resulted in significant sparking near the left engine. 

Passenger and Crew Safety

All 77 individuals on board, including passengers and crew, were safely evacuated without injuries.Emergency services promptly transported them to the terminal for further assessment. 

Operational Impact

Following the incident, Halifax Stanfield International Airport temporarily suspended flight operations.One runway was reopened in the early hours of Sunday to resume flight activities. 

Investigation

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the landing gear failure.The aircraft involved is registered as C-GPNA. 
